About us
Sofia Development Association is a resource centre for research, analyses, innovations and experiment, which encourages the constant dialogue between Sofia Municipality, civil society, the business, and academic institutions.
The Association was established by Sofia Municipal Council Resolution No 348 / 08.07.2010. SDA is an independent organization, registered by Sofia City Court on 16.08.2010, company case 495/2010, in public benefit under the Not-for-Profit Legal Entities Act.

SDA has been assisting the Council with policy development, design of strategic documents, monitoring and evaluation of local policy instruments, outreach and partnership building with citizens, businesses, academia, and stakeholders. Since 2014 SDA manages the first public-private fund for innovations in Bulgaria, funding innovative solutions at the city level. Since 2015 SDA has also managed the Green Sofia Division of Sofia Municipality, charged to develop with broad participation solutions for Sofia’s environmental problems. SDA also has vast experience in the areas of cultural development and innovation and entrepreneurship (being the coordinator of Sofia RIS3 development and implementation).
SDA is accountable before the Council and therefore its annual plans and reports are public, discussed in the presence of citizens and media in the Council and its committees.
The City of Sofia will be one of the AeroSolfd project demo sites for Retrofit solutions for closed environments.
