Role in the Project

The closed environment of the AUVASA central bus depot at Valladolid will act as a demo site. It is frequently used by busses when leaving for the route and returning after route delivery. For at least three different setups of air purifiers, the effect on improving air quality, and reducing the effect of brake emissions will be measured and studied in simulations. In addition, up to 3 semi-closed and open bus stops will distribute as demo sites.

It will be necessary to plan the installation of the equipment , the records of driving cycles of the Valladolid buses and the installation of sensors and data logger in them, and also the uninstallation of the equipment.

AUVASA will help LINK technicians to install/uninstall brake pollution measurement equipment in 2 or 3 buses. AUVASA will also contribute to the design of the action plan and the choice of the buses to be used as a test model, providing all the information that is necessary for the successful completion of the project, such as:

  • Type of energy source for buses
  • Routes of the lines: duration, graduation of the slope, …
  • Types of brakes
  • Basic installation requirements,…

The sensors to be recorded in the data logger to be placed on the buses are the following:

  • GPS
  • Humidity + temperature sensor
  • Thermocouple (Temperature) in the four brake discs
  • Accelerometer/decelerometer in the center of mass of the bus
  • Pressure sensor in the hydraulic circuit of the braking system
  • Later, in the AUVASA garage (probably in the workshop area) another test module will be installed to measure the environmental contamination of braking in a reduced area
