About us
Metro Lisbon is the rapid transit system in Lisbon, Portugal. It was founded in 1948 and today has a network of 4 independent lines, 44.5 km in length and 56 stations serving ~173 million passengers (2019). Operating in Lisbon and in neighbouring municipalities, with stations connected to other public transport operators, Metro Lisbon improves the mobility, adding to the transport system’s greater connection efficiency, playing a critical role in facilitating Lisbon urban and sustainable mobility.
The air quality of the metro network is very relevant, so since 2020, Metro Lisbon has been monitoring the air quality of its stations through probes installed on the platforms. Through this monitoring, it was possible to identify some stations with high levels of particulate matter PM10 and PM2.5. For the Aerosolfd project, Metro Lisbon will provide stations as demo sites, to test the consortium air purification systems, evaluating the improvements on the air quality, using dedicated monitoring stations.
