About us

The Institute of Energy and Environmental Technology (IUTA) is a private, non-profit research institute, located in Duisburg, Germany. With around 130 employees, it is among the largest research institutes in Germany dealing with process and environmental engineering. A strong focus of the institute’s research is on aerosol research, including the study of filtration efficiencies, development of measurement principles and routines, investigations on indoor and outdoor air quality and the determination of emission of fine dust particles, e.g. from passenger car brakes. The institute has been established in 1991 and currently generates an annual turnover of around 10 M€. IUTA is part of the Johannes Rau Forschungsgemeinschaft and an adjunct institute of the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Role in the Project

IUTA will in addition to its environmental engineering expertise provide its expertise for the brake particle emission measurements of the retrofit products and for assessing effects on water quality. This includes for instance brake emission sampling, measurement and data evaluation and techniques for exposure assessment.
